Sourcing and dropshipping

How much does Zendrop cost per month for a UK Shopify shop?

Zendrop's paid plans start at about £23 a month, but the real UK bill adds dollar-marked postage and per-item mark-ups the pricing page never itemises.

The short answer: Zendrop is a dropshipping app that sources products from US and China-based suppliers and fulfils them through your Shopify shop. Paid plans start at $29 a month — about £23 at current rates. Pro is $49 and Plus is $79, according to the Shopify App Store listing checked on 1 September 2026. The free tier lets you browse the catalogue but links no products until a paid plan is active. The real monthly bill is the plan fee plus a per-item mark-up and postage charged in dollars, none of which the pricing page itemises. A budget built from the plan page alone will be wrong.

Zendrop sits in the dropshipping category. You list products you do not hold, and a supplier posts them when an order arrives. For a UK seller that means revenue in pounds but costs in dollars, with import VAT and customs to consider on low-value parcels. If you are new to the platform, our guide to setting up a Shopify shop in the UK covers the platform side. Our primer on what Shopify is and how it works in the UK explains the basics.

The UK e-commerce market is large. Statista's September 2025 report expects about 52 million UK e-commerce users in 2025, forecasting revenue of £131.4 billion by 2029. The same report records that internet retail sales grew by 47% in 2020 — the fastest rate in the previous ten years. Dropshipping apps appeal because they remove the need to hold stock in a market that size. The cost question is whether the per-order economics work once you convert dollars to pounds and add postage.

What Zendrop's plans cost in pounds

The App Store listing shows three paid tiers plus a free option. Prices are in US dollars and billed monthly, with annual options on the two upper plans. We checked the listing and Zendrop's help centre on 1 September 2026. Zendrop can change these figures, and the listing page is authoritative.

Plan USD/month Approx. GBP Annual Linked products (peak) Realistic for
Free $0 £0 none Judging the catalogue
Beginner $29 ~£23 1–20 First orders, testing a niche
Pro $49 ~£39 $399/year 21–100 A shop with regular sales
Plus $79 ~£63 $549/year 101+ Volume seller, branded fulfilment

The help centre prices annual billing at "save 42%" on Pro and Plus. What changes between tiers is the number of linked products and access to features like branded thank-you cards, weekly coaching calls and the trending product finder. A budget decision is therefore a capacity decision, not a margin decision.

Why the dollar price is not what you pay

Zendrop bills in dollars. Your UK card provider converts at its own rate, then adds a foreign-exchange fee on top of the mid-market rate — the size of that fee varies by issuer. So $29 does not become £23. It becomes £23 plus whatever your bank charges for the privilege.

The subscription is invoiced from outside the UK. Whether you can reclaim anything on it depends on your VAT position — a question for your accountant, not for this page. The listing itself only confirms that all charges are billed in USD, recurring and usage-based, every 30 days.

The registration threshold is separate but related. Under Schedule 1 of the Value Added Tax Act 1994, a UK-established trader must register for VAT above a turnover threshold. The threshold sits at £90,000, as amended with effect from 1 April 2024. Dropshipping revenue counts towards that threshold. Our VAT on a Shopify shop guide walks through that calculation.

Mark-up and postage: the costs the plan page omits

This is where the real cost lives. Zendrop's help centre carries a standing article titled "Why is the cost per item higher in Zendrop than the listed price?" — the question appears often enough that the support team documented it. App Store reviews put it bluntly: the per-item price "you'd pay for most of these items are $5-$10 higher than retail prices anywhere else", and shipping and your own margin come on top. The catalogue price is not a wholesale price.

Postage is the second layer. Product and shipping are listed separately in the pricing documents, and shipping varies by supplier, warehouse and destination. A product listed at $5 can attract a shipping charge of the same order again to reach a UK address. Read the landed cost, not the sticker.

For UK buyers, this matters at the cart. The Baymard Institute's review of 50 studies puts the average documented online shopping cart abandonment rate at 70.22% (Baymard Institute, 2026). Among shoppers who abandoned a cart for reasons other than just browsing, 40% said extra costs such as shipping, tax and fees were too high. A further 20% cited delivery being too slow, and 12% said they could not see or calculate the total order cost up-front.

If your Zendrop product price plus postage pushes the checkout total higher than buyers expect, those figures land on your shop. You set the selling price, but the underlying cost base is dollar-denominated and split across two lines. The Shopify Payments UK guide covers the card-fee side of what the buyer pays.

Free tier, trial and two billing models

The free tier is browse-only. The listing's Free card advertises "Access to 1M+ Products" and 24/7 support, but "No linked products allowed." A live dropshipping operation needs a paid plan from day one.

Two billing models exist. Zendrop's help centre distinguishes Standard plans, billed directly through Zendrop at a flat monthly or annual rate, from Usage-Based Billing, billed through Shopify or Wix by peak linked products. Which model applies depends on how and when you signed up, not on your store platform. Under usage-based billing, downgrading is arithmetic: reduce the number of linked products.

There is also a free trial. The help centre says trial length depends on your plan and active promotions, and your exact end date appears on the Billing page in your dashboard. New subscribers have been offered a $40 discount on the first month. Treat "free" as a test drive, not a usable tier. The moment you want to import or fulfil, the billing clock starts.

A worked example: one UK shop's first month

This is a stated-assumption scenario, not a real shop. The numbers are illustrative arithmetic to show how the plan page understates the first month; swap in your own figures.

Assume you sign up for Beginner at $29 a month. Your bank converts at a rate that makes that £24 after FX fees. You import ten products and fulfil five orders. Each product costs $6 in the catalogue plus $7 shipping to the UK, so the per-order cost from Zendrop is $13. Five orders at $13 is $65, which your bank converts to roughly £54.

Your selling price is £19.99 per item, so five orders bring in £99.95 in revenue. Through Shopify Payments on the Basic plan, card fees are 2% plus 25p per transaction. See our Shopify cost per month UK guide for the platform side. That is roughly £2.15 per order, or £10.75 total.

First-month profit: £99.95 revenue minus £24 plan minus £54 product and shipping minus £10.75 card fees equals £11.20. Positive, but barely. The plan page told you the cost was $29. The worked example lands at £88.75. The gap is the per-order mark-up and shipping the pricing page does not combine into one number.

How to keep the real monthly cost down

Three levers matter. They are choices you make about how you use the app, not features of the app itself.

  1. Prefer US-warehoused items. Products stored in Zendrop's US warehouses tend to have shorter, more predictable shipping routes to the UK than items shipped from China. Shipping is often lower and delivery faster, which helps with the 20% of cart abandoners who blame slow delivery.
  2. Compute landed cost before importing. The catalogue price is not the landed cost. Landed cost is product plus shipping plus your card's FX margin, converted to pounds. If that leaves no room for a selling price covering your Shopify fees, the product is not viable.
  3. Let linked-product volume pick the plan. The caps are the real gate: Beginner runs 1 to 20, Pro 21 to 100, Plus 101 and above. Move up when you hit the cap, not when a feature looks appealing.

A landed-cost checklist, in your own numbers:

  • Catalogue price in USD: $___.
  • Shipping to UK in USD: $___.
  • Total Zendrop cost per order: $___.
  • Convert to GBP at your card's rate: £___.
  • Add your card's FX fee: £___.
  • Your selling price: £___.
  • Shopify card fee per order: £___.
  • Profit per order: £___.

When you should not install Zendrop

Not every shop needs a dropshipping app. If you hold your own stock or fulfil through a UK-based third-party logistics provider, Zendrop adds a layer of cost and latency you do not need. The catalogue mark-up and dollar-denominated shipping exist because Zendrop sits between you and the supplier. Remove that intermediary and those costs disappear.

If your margins are already thin, the per-order maths may not work. A product costing $13 landed and selling for £19.99 leaves roughly £2 after plan and card fees, as the worked example shows. One returned order eats a meaningful chunk of that.

Dropshipping from overseas suppliers also complicates the 14-day cancellation right under the Consumer Contracts (Information, Cancellation and Additional Charges) Regulations 2013. The supplier's return process sits outside your control, which makes fulfilling that statutory obligation harder than it would be with domestic stock.

Frequently asked questions

Is Zendrop actually free?

The free tier exists but links no products. You can explore the catalogue of over a million products with support available, but you cannot import any into your Shopify shop, place orders or trigger fulfilment. To run a live dropshipping operation, a paid plan is required from the first order.

How does Zendrop's usage-based billing work?

Usage-based billing charges through Shopify or Wix and depends on your peak number of linked products during the billing period, not a flat monthly fee. Whether you are on this model or a standard plan depends on how and when you signed up. Sellers on standard plans keep direct monthly billing until they change it.

Does Zendrop charge VAT on its subscription?

The subscription is billed in US dollars from outside the UK. How it enters your VAT position depends on your registration and reclaim rights — ask your accountant before assuming it is reclaimable or not.

What is the cheapest way to try Zendrop?

The monthly Beginner plan at $29 is the lowest floor price for a functional test. Annual plans offer a per-month discount but lock in more cash up front. Promotions, like the $40 first-month discount the help centre describes, can reduce the entry cost further.
